How we make money
The honest version, because you're trusting us with an uncomfortable topic.
The short answer
Some links on this site are affiliate links. If a result points you to a service (an online estate planning platform, an attorney matching service, a life insurance review), and you use our link to check it out or sign up, the company pays us a commission or referral fee. It costs you nothing extra. That's the entire business model: no subscriptions, no selling your information, no ads on tool pages.
What that means in practice
- The gap check is free and stays free. Your results appear without giving an email, a phone number, or a payment method.
- Recommendations can't be bought. The verdict is rule-based: the same answers produce the same guidance for every person, every time. No partner can pay to change which advice appears. (More on this on How our recommendations work.)
- Honesty outranks the payout. When your situation genuinely needs an attorney (blended families, special-needs dependents, business ownership, real complexity), the result says so, even where a platform link would pay us more easily.
- We label it. Every page with affiliate links carries a disclosure, and verdict pages repeat it right above the links themselves.
What we don't do
- We don't require an account or email.
- We don't run display ads on tool pages.
- We don't draft or review legal documents, and we don't take referral fees from individual attorneys for steering specific outcomes.
- We don't accept payment for placement in our guidance, reviews, or comparisons.
Why we think this is fair
People researching wills and estate documents get bombarded by lead-generation sites that trade their phone number for basic information. We'd rather give you the information first and earn a commission only when a service is genuinely the right next step for your situation, and you decide that, not us.
