Check a charity before you name it

If you plan to leave something to an organization, this looks up its exact legal name, its EIN, and its real numbers from the most recent public 990, so the gift lands where you meant it to.

Why the exact name matters

Estate documents should name the exact legal name and EIN of the organization. Many charities share a name, and a bequest that only says "the cancer society" or "St. Jude" can end up with a similarly named group you never intended. The EIN is the one identifier that cannot be confused.

Figures come from the most recent Form 990 published in ProPublica Nonprofit Explorer, which draws on IRS data. A 990 describes one filing year of reported finances. It is not a rating, an endorsement, or legal or financial advice. Your search runs in your browser against our shared data service; the organization name you type is sent only to look up results and is never stored or logged here. Confirm the exact legal name and EIN with the organization and your attorney before naming it in a document.
